Memory of Colic…

I remember having a lot of trouble explaining to my friends and family just how overwhelmed, angry, resentful and downright depressed I really was…how hard a time I was really having. I just wanted to say: ‘I’m having the hardest time of my life and I really need you to help me’…but I didn’t want to be a burden and couldn’t bring myself to ask. I wanted help, and had no idea how to get it…did anyone else feel that way?

Merry Christmas!

Just a quick note to say Happy Holidays! This is the time of year to really enjoy your friends and family so make sure you spend some time giving your kids a squeeze  :)

Sometimes it’s hard to really just enjoy when you have a baby that cries a lot. I want to tell you a quick little story….

Two years ago at Christmastime my daughter was 2 months old. As you may know if you’ve been following my facebook fan page, blog or YouTube channel; my daughter had an extreme case of colic. Basically, she screamed for hours at a time, every day, for months. By that Christmas, I’d been dealing with this for 2 months and was absolutely exhausted.

My family was over for Christmas, and all I could do was lay in bed and stare at the wall. Literally, all I could do was stare at the wall. My Mom would come in and ask if I wanted to eat and I could barely even muster up a grunt let alone a proper response.

That’s what baby colic can do to you. It wears you out until you feel ragged, drained, and too tired to do anything.

I was lucky, I found a cure for my baby’s colic shortly after that. I also found some great ways to help me get through the feelings of fatigue, overwhelm and depression I was experiencing every day.

You can learn these simple techniques too, just head over to the shopping cart.

Have a great Christmas; spend some time with your family and friends this season and give yourself a treat….all parents deserve one!

Merry Christmas,

Leah

Are you Breastfeeding?

If you are breastfeeding, oftentimes you may feel that your privacy went out the window as soon as Baby was born. You may even feel you have to stay at home to nurse so you don’t get those ‘weird looks’ from people that are uncomfortable watching someone nursing their baby…even if they are covered with a blanket.

My kids hated the feel of a blanket over them as they nursed, and the blanket usually ended up falling as I tried to peak under to get everything ‘set up’. It just ended up being a big production to try to nurse in public. I was the one that ended up going into the bathroom and trying to nurse while sitting cramped in a stall so I could just bare myself and not worry about anyone staring…it was not a nice experience and oftentimes I made a point not to leave my house.

To help Mommies in this same situation, we’ve designed the Privacy Nursing Tent. This exclusive tent covers all the essentials but allows you to still see how baby is doing down there: Imagine, you get to see what’s going on, but nobody else does!

Advice from a 4 year old!

I heard some profound advice from my 4 year old son today. My 2 year old was having a tantrum, so my son asked her if she wanted a hug. She nodded and they had a beautiful moment hugging with Aidan patting her back and saying ‘it’s okay’.

When they stopped hugging, he looked at her and said:

‘Kaitlyn, you can choose to be happy you know.’

Very profound. Wouldn’t things be a lot better if we all chose to be happy?

Bedtime Bug

I’m a firm believer in bedtimes and routine for kids. Sure, there are special occasions and allowances for Friday night and all, but for the most part my kids are in bed for 7:00. At least, that’s always the idea. It’s currently 9:10 PM, my daughter is crying in her bedroom that she doesn’t want to go to bed:

No night-night Mommy, NO night-night!!

My son is in bedroom…finally…after having to pee for the 6th time in 2 hours. I can hear him whispering to his toys and who knows what time he’ll actually fall asleep.

The sad thing is, that no matter what time they go to sleep, they always wake up at the exact same time! 6:00 AM to be exact.

Nights like these it’s okay to realize that, hey, they’re crying, so why can’t you?!?

What’s the priority?

I picked up my son from day care today and he was not in the best of moods. He whimpered on the way home, whimpered louder as we got into the house, and continued the sniffles as we unpacked.  Question: What’s wrong little buddy? Answer: I don’t know Mommy. Well, okay then.

I, of course, was doing my best to ignore his continued whimpering (since we established that nothing was wrong) while I was starting a load of laundry, making supper, cleaning up the entry and kitchen, and getting ready for a meeting that I had that evening. I was my usual busy, busy self. By that time, my son started to really cry…coming close to a howl. Exasperated, I asked for about the 10th time. Question: What’s wrong buddy? Answer: I don’t know Mommy. I guess (sniff), I guess (sniff) I just miss you Mommy.

Well, I got the sniffles too and it sure put things into perspective quickly.

It’s easy to be so busy doing things to take care of your family…but sometimes all they really need you to do is take a moment to snuggle on the couch. Don’t spend so much time preparing for the future that you forget to enjoy the present.

Flowers, Dandelions, and such sweet Innocense!

The other day I was walking into the backyard with my two young kids. My 1 1/2 yr old had just fallen on the gravel and skinned her knees a bit. As we were walking, my 3 yr old son picks a dandelion, hands it to my daughter and says “Here baby sister, you look like you need a flower”. Sweetest thing to see ever :)
